Avira Antivir Personal is an anti-virus tool designed to keep your computer free from virusses, malware and other harmful and often malicious software. It is the free version of Avira Antivir Premium and was created by Avira GmbH, a German developer of security software.
I have been using this software for many years and have not encountered any problems with. I have yet to catch my first virus. The good thing about Avira Antivir is that it is one of the few Anti Virus tools that comes without a firewall built in. This means Avira can not and will not disrupt your internet connection as oposed to to other anti-virus programs out there. You may think that Avira is less safe then the ones with a firewall inside but this is not the case. Thanks to the fact that all current Windows flavors(XP, Vista and Windows 7) come with a firewall already installed.
Installing Avira is very easy. You can start the installer from their website and the download and install procdure will in total take up less then 15 minutes. After that it will download the latest virus lists, and do this on a daily basis, provided that your computer is online.
Basically Avira is a one click system that you can simply install and let run, it will take care of itself and the only minor annoyance it has is the daily promotion for their paid version, but that is a very small price to pay for such an excellent product.
The only thing preventing me from buying the Premium version is the fact that the Premium version does include a firewall.
In conclusion I highly recommend Avira Antivir Personal to any Windows user out there.
